The 27th
Tokyo International Film Festival rolled out the
red carpet for a lineup of domestic and international film stars and directors
during its opening ceremony at the Roppongi Hills complex on Oct. 23. Among the
notables in attendance were members of J-pop
group Arashi, who are serving as the special festival ambassadors and
they were dressed perfectly in black suits and neckties.

As it was not announced in advance that the group would be
there, the audience was pleasantly surprised by their appearance.Their
appearance sparked an eruption of applause from the some 2,800 people
in the audience for the opening event.
Some 250 films -- including special screenings -- are scheduled
to play at this year's festival, the largest of its kind in Japan. The Tokyo International Film
Festival wraps on Oct. 31.
In reference to the song "Let It Go" from the Disney
film "Frozen," a tuxedo-clad Prime Minister
Shinzo Abe told the audience, "During the lead-up to the 2020 Summer
Olympics in Tokyo, I want our country to shine. And I don't mean focusing upon
Japan's artistic eccentricity: I am referring to our strength and our
excellence. In other words, we just need to be exactly as we are."
